"Yes- although usually with a material like rubber. The solution is generally to stick to what you've already contaminated at that point, then hang it out in the sun for a few weeks to kill whatever's on it."
Explaining, helpfully.
"It's up to your bottom, if the kind of pain it brings is a good or bad thing."
"What you need to do is learn how to hit, intuitively and easily. What I want you to do is practice, until you can keep your eyes squarely on them."
Explaining, pointing at the fabric.
"When I'm flogging someone, I keep my gaze on their shoulders. You can see a lot- when their body hugs in against whatever they're on, they need a second. They'll shift, settle, and lean back out. Or, when they're nervous, their shoulders will come up to their ears. You can also watch breathing that way- try and hit on the exhale, unless you want to wind them, then by all means-"
He admits, then sets the toy down, reaching instead for two matching ones. He begins to start the florentine flogging, showing him the even crossing lines across the sheet.
"Different technique. Constant stimulation, a little more overwhelming. Feels real good."
He informs him, with an arch smile.
"Want a second safety tip? Bottoms are occasionally morons. They get high on pain, they get dizzy in pain, they move. They turn their face into a blow like this."
Landing one of the floggers against the beam with a ferocious crack.
"This one is a good exercise in understanding a few things- one, that force is a combination of two factors; mass and velocity. Two, the way a body should move when you're using a flogger. I pretty much have to use every muscle to wield this proper, so pay attention to how it goes- from the ground and up. Good flogging starts from the ankles."
His ankles twist, knee pivoting slightly, whole back and shoulders twisting almost like he's doing the hammer throw, hands grasping the pummel. The flogger picks up slow speed on the first loop, then raises over his head, flying in a wide circle above his head. His entire body twists with it, it slams into the beam of the suspension frame, and the entire wooden structure hops about an inch to the left from the sheer concussive force.
The tails bend. Keep going. He flies it in another circle and brings it downwards, going up into the air on one leg and slamming it forwards, up over his shoulder so it snaps against the wood, like it's hitting someone in the shoulders and dragging down their whole back, vertically, before hitting the ground.
Gerard ends up on one knee, thus the protective gear.

Poor Ryo.
"But please, go on."

Grabbing something a little big, still not wild.

He makes sure he's out of the way, taking a seat on the floor to watch him properly, all wide eyes and steady hunger to learn.

"Build up a rhythm. I keep mine steady going swirl, swirl, ground with the tails up over my back."
Snapping it against his shoulder, slowing the motion.
"Try not to fall in pace with the music playing. Watch the bottom's breathing, like I said."
no subject
"I know that when I'm having this done to me, I'm all over the place."

The whirling motion continues, slow and absolutely easy.

It looks trancelike, lovely.

He's never seen it.

"... I probably would."

Releasing it from his hand midswing. It sails over them.
"Anything else just adds momentum, hurts you both worse."

He reminds him, before nodding around at the mess of toys.
"I'm going to show you a few more things, just so you get a sense of the scope of movement."
He'll be buckling on protective knee pads, in the mean time.
no subject
He lights up a little, still shy.

"This was half an elk of leather. I made it myself, with an aircraft bolt to pin the head to the handle."

Al bites his lip eager to watch. Perhaps terribly, it makes him want to see if he can take that monster.

"And..." he wets his lips. "Those movements, every flogger-?"
no subject
Straightening up, with a more modest sized one in hand. He shows him three quick strikes from the wrist.
Then three with just his arm, shoulder and down.
Then three with his body, powerful and concussive and beautifully fluid.
